The story of Freia Forellen began in 1979, when Finn R. Jensen, together with four former colleagues, founded their own company focused on the breeding and export of trout. Today, Finn is still active in the company, which is now owned by his son, Jens Sillas Jensen.
From the beginning, Freia Forellen has been built on expertise, quality, and tradition. When you order fish from us, you are guaranteed reliable delivery of healthy, live fish raised at premium fish farms.
Today, Freia Forellen is recognized across much of Europe for our quality products from the best fish farms.
Our customers and partners are based in Denmark and throughout Europe. Many of them have been with us since the beginning. We primarily deliver to put-and-take lakes and smaller fish farms but also have years of experience serving the food industry, including smokehouses and fish processors.
Do you know why we chose the name Freia Forellen?
It was important that the name made sense in both Denmark and internationally.
”Forel” or “Forelle” is the German word for brown trout and is commonly used by fishmongers and restaurants when referring to trout.
Freia references Freja, the Nordic goddess of fertility, but it’s also the way Jutlanders pronounce the word “Friday.” As a company rooted in the soil of Jutland, founded on a Friday, it seemed fitting to adopt the name.
